Research of Thermal Boundary Layer in Air Gap Membrane Distillation Hot Channel

Abstract:
By destroying the temperature polarization and concentration polarization to improve the membrane flux is one of important research for membrane distillation technology. So the numerical simulation has done to obtain the reason of mass transfer enhancement. According to the simulation results, the temperature of membrane surface and the thermal boundary layer in the hot channel will change if the construction parameter of membrane module is different from each other. Under the same operation condition, the thermal boundary layer of membrane module with duck mouth shape jet is about 1mm rather smaller than that of membrane module with cylinder shape jet, 2.8mm. And if the construction parameter is changed, the effect of hot solution flow rate on the membrane surface temperature will decrease. The higher membrane surface temperature will gained under lower solution flow rate when use duck shape jet membrane module. Therefore, the temperature boundary layer thickness decreases is the main reason for membrane flux increasing of duck mouth shape membrane module.
