Abstract:
With the increase of the amount of papermaking wastewater, improvement of the traditional process was imminent extremely. As a new efficient treatment process, membrane bioreactor (MBR) was able to cope with this problem commendably. However, the key to the MBR widespread application in papermaking wastewater was to reduce the membrane fouling problem. This paper aimed to study membrane fouling mitigation methods. The results showed that the effect of air and mechanical scouring could effectively alleviate membrane fouling. The purpose of reducing membrane fouling could be fully realized with the membrane surface washed when the aeration intensity reached to 1800 L/(m2·h). Adding to support medium into the bioreactorcould ensure the change of transmembrane pressure (TMP) at a low aeration. Furthermore, it reduced membrane fouling and energy consumption.
