Abstract:
Acetonitrile wastewater is toxic and hazardous. Acetonitrile in high-salt wastewater is refractory and difficult for wastewater treatment. In this work, separation and recovery of acetonitrile from high-salt aqueous streams by pervaporation were investigated, the influences of operating conditions(e.g. acetonitrile feed concentration, temperature, feed flowrate, salt concentration) were evaluated. Results shows that an increase in concentration implies higher fluxes ,whereas a rise in temperature implies higher flux and reduction of the separation factor. The activation energy for the permeation of acetonitrile and water through the membrane indicated that the pervaporation of acetonitrile is more highly temperature dependent than water. The maximum permeate flux achieved was 353g/m2h,and the highest concentrations of acetonitrile in the permeate was found to be more than 47% . The pervaporation process offers a prospect for the treatment and recovery of hazardous acetonitrile wastewater because of the high acetonitrile concentration of the permeate and the possibility for its reuse.
