Abstract:
Abstract  PET non-woven fiber (NWF) as a support and the sulfonated polyethersulfone (SPES)/polyethersulfone (PES) as blending polymer were used to prepare a SPES/PES/NWF composite catalytic membrane (CCM) with high porosity by a non-solvent induced phase inversion process. Then the membranes were employed to carry out the esterification of acetic acid with ethanol into the fixed membrane reactor. The results showed that the acetic acid conversion reached 75.5% in a single flow-through mode at the initial ethanol/acetic acid molar ratio of 3.9:1, reaction temperature of 348K and the residence time of 330s. The acetic acid equilibrium conversion was 91.0% in a closed-loop flow-through mode. For the pervaporation-assisted esterification in the closed-loop mode, a new equilibrium conversion reached 95.4%. And this novel composite membrane catalytic technology has a potential in synthesis of ethyl acetate and related esters.
