Abstract:
The feasibility for the chemical cleaning of nano TiO2 modified Al2O3 ceramic MF membranes fouled by oil/water emulsion was investigated in details, using the developed alkaline composite cleaning agent and through once cleaning process. The measurements of recovery ratios of permeate flux, oil rejection rate, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analyses were conducted to characterize the cleaning effect of developed cleaning agents and the influence of chemical cleaning process on the modification effects of nano TiO2. Results shows that the prepared alkaline composite cleaning agent exhibit excellent cleaning effect and could remove the membrane foulants effectively. The chemical cleaning process does not affect the modification effects of nano TiO2 on Al2O3 ceramic membrane. The industrial application cleaning tests were also conducted for modified Al2O3 membranes fouled by cold rolling emulsified oily wastewater from a steel mill. After cleaning, the permeate flux recovery ratios of pure water and oily water could reach 96.9% and 98.1%, respectively.
