Study on operation performance and membrane fouling of AnMBR with fiber bundle filler at low temperature

Abstract:
 Anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) combines membrane with anaerobic biological treatment technology, which can effectively degrade organic matter and take into account energy recovery. It has become a new sewage treatment technology. However, due to the low biodegradation efficiency of AnMBR at low temperature, the membrane fouling is aggravated, which limits its application. In this paper, the COD removal efficiency, gas production capacity and membrane fouling behavior of two parallel split anaerobic membrane bioreactors (AnMBR) with or without fiber bundle filler at low temperature(10 °C)were compared and studied under different hydraulic retention times (HRT). The results show that B-AnMBR with filler can maintain efficient and stable COD removal rate under different HRT, gas production increases 43%, and methane content increases 26%~42%. Due to the good COD removal effect, the membrane pollution in B-AnMBR is significantly alleviated, and the running time is nearly doubled at HRT=12h or 8h. The research results will provide a reference for the effect of AnMBR filler and the selection of suitable HRT and other operating conditions under the actual low temperature operation.
