Abstract:
Membrane distillation (MD) is an emerging separation technology, which has received great attention in seawater desalination and wastewater treatment. However, the feed solutions contain a variety of low surface energy pollutants in practical applications, which will make the traditional hydrophobic membrane wetting. Currently, omniphobic membranes have attracted much attention because they can resist the wetting of all liquids and alleviate the wetting phenomenon in MD process. In this paper, the commonly used parameters for evaluating the performances are briefly discussed. Then the research progress of three commonly omniphobic membranes in recent years is introduced in detail, which are nanoparticle incorporated membranes, electrospun membranes and Janus membranes. Finally, the design strategies and future development trends of omniphobic membranes are summarized.
